INDEPENDENT SOFTWARE STUDIO

Good to the last byte.

We build software, wire systems together, and rescue projects that were left one byte short. Everything we ship gets audited first. The code, the documentation, and the parts your next hire has to live with.

CAPABILITIES

Services

Seven things we do. Find the one that matches the week you are having.

01 / BUILD

Custom software

New systems, built to be handed over.

Web apps, backend services, small platforms. Built from a written spec, tested as it goes, documented so your team can pick it up without us in the room.

What lands in your hands:
  • Repository with tests that run without us
  • Infrastructure config and deploy scripts
  • Architecture notes and a local setup guide
02 / CONNECT

Integration and APIs

Getting two systems to agree, and keeping them agreed.

Integrations fail quietly, and that is the expensive part. We build the pipes with retries, schema checks and logging, so a failure arrives as an alert with a name on it instead of missing orders a few days later.

What lands in your hands:
  • Pipelines with schema validation and alerting
  • Written API contracts and webhook specs
  • Integration tests and a dashboard you can glance at
03 / RESCUE

Legacy rescue and migration

For software nobody wants to touch.

Fragile system, departed maintainer, dependencies several versions out of date. We take custody, stop the bleeding, clear out the unmaintained packages, and move the important workloads onto something current. Your product keeps running while it happens.

What lands in your hands:
  • Stabilized codebase with dead dependencies gone
  • Migration plan and data integrity checks
  • Updated dependency manifest, with the vulnerability list worked through
04 / AUTOMATE

Automation and internal tools

Software for the people doing the work.

Repetitive admin tasks, copy-paste rituals, the spreadsheet quietly holding production together. We write the CLI tool, the admin panel, the scheduled job that replaces them, and it runs inside what you already have.

What lands in your hands:
  • CLI tool or admin panel built for your operators
  • Scheduled jobs with alerting and audit logs
  • A runbook, so it survives us
05 / AUDIT

Audits and code review

A written answer to "how bad is it?"

We read your code and tell you what is risky, with reproduction steps, severity, and the fix. It ends with a briefing for whoever has to make the decision, and a roadmap in the order the work should happen.

What lands in your hands:
  • Audit report with findings, risks and severity
  • Remediation roadmap with file references
  • A walkthrough with your leads
06 / AI

AI development

From "we should use AI somewhere" to something in production

We build the whole thing: finding the use case that pays for itself, a prototype you can click, then the real system behind it, retrieval, fine-tuning, agents, evals, guardrails, cost control. We also work out the business case and go to market around it, pricing, positioning and pipeline, so the AI you ship is the AI worth shipping.

What lands in your hands:
  • AI opportunity map with ROI per use case
  • A working prototype in weeks, not a slide deck
  • Production system with evals, guardrails and cost tracking
  • Business case and go-to-market plan
07 / SEO

Search and visibility

Rankings as an engineering problem, not a vibes problem.

Most search advice is fog. We treat visibility like any other system: pages a crawler can actually read, real content behind the HTML, structured data that says who you are and what you own, and measurement that tells us what moved. Index hygiene comes first, redirects, canonicals, sitemaps and pages that render server side. Then the content and directory work that earns links honestly. Nothing invented, nothing stuffed, no link schemes, no monthly mystery report.

What lands in your hands:
  • Technical and index audit, with the fixes shipped rather than listed
  • Server rendered content with structured data and clean entity wiring
  • Search Console wired up, plus a plain language report of what moved and what did not
HOW IT RUNS

Process

Every engagement runs the same five steps. Rescues included.

01 / TRIAGE

Triage

We read the code, check the logs, and ask the people who live with the system what hurts. You get a blunt read on what is broken and what to fix first, before any code gets written.

02 / SPEC

Spec

We write down what the thing has to do, in plain language, with the interfaces and the deployment target named. Milestones and the meaning of "done" get agreed before we build.

03 / BUILD

Build

Small increments with tests attached, and commit history you can follow. The repository is yours from the first commit, so nothing ends up living somewhere private.

04 / AUDIT

Audit

This is the name on the door. Dependencies, configs, error paths, secrets, memory safety, documentation, runbooks. If it does not check out, it does not ship.

05 / SHIP

Ship and watch

Deployed into production with logging on, then watched under real traffic for a while. Handoff is finished when the people inheriting it can run the thing without calling us.

THE ARRANGEMENT

Ways to work together

Four shapes. Tell us the number and the work gets built around it, pricing quoted, never guessed.

FIXED-SCOPE SPRINT

Fixed-scope sprint

A defined piece of work: one feature, one integration, a product you can describe in a paragraph.

Cadence Milestone deliveries, fixed scope, agreed end date.
What you see each week Working software on staging, code walkthroughs, short status notes.
Quoted per engagement.
PRODUCT AND OPS RETAINER

Ongoing partnership

For teams that need engineering capacity all the time: roadmap, upkeep, and the boring reliability work nobody wants to own.

Cadence Rolling cycles, reserved capacity, first call on anything urgent.
What you see each week What shipped, system health, backlog order, next week's plan.
Quoted per engagement.
TIME-BOXED RESCUE

Time-boxed rescue

Stalled platform, live outage, compliance deadline, codebase nobody has maintained in years.

Cadence A stabilization window that runs until the system is dependable again.
What you see each week Daily notes during the window, patch logs, and a post-mortem at the end.
Quoted per engagement.
SCALED TO THE NUMBER

Scoped to your budget

A three day fix or a six month build. Tell us the number and the outcome you want, and the work gets shaped to fit it. The standards stay put, the scope is what moves.

Cadence Whatever the money buys: a day of focused work, one phase, or a standing slice of capacity every month.
What you see each week A written scope that states what the budget covers and what it does not, with the trade-offs named before any work starts.
Quotes say what gets cut first if the number shrinks.
ANSWERS

Questions asked before hiring

The ones people actually ask.

Can we trust your timeline?

Timelines come from what the work needs, not from what you want to hear. When something unexpected shows up, which it does, you hear about it the same day, in writing, with options for what to cut, push, or pay for.

What happens when the work hits a wall?

We stop and work out why. You get a short written note with the blocker, the options, and what we recommend. Silent stalling is the one thing you will never get from us.

Who owns the code?

You do. When the last invoice clears, the repository, the deploy scripts, the documentation and everything paid for by your company are yours. No license back to us, no hostage clauses.

Can you work with a messy codebase?

That is most of the work. Old platform, no documentation, dependencies nobody maintains, infrastructure people are scared to touch. First it gets stable, then it gets modern, and your business does not blink in the middle.

How do you price an audit?

Per engagement. It depends on how many systems are in scope, how big the repositories are, how tangled the architecture is, and whether compliance is involved. Fixed fee, agreed before we start, with a written list of what gets checked.

Does the size of our budget decide whether you take the job?

No. Fit decides that. Say what you can spend in the first message and you get a scope that does real good with that money, rather than a large plan quietly underfunded. If the honest answer is that you should spend nothing yet, you hear that too.

Who do you turn down?

Projects designed to deceive people, crypto speculation, surveillance platforms, and anyone who wants to argue about the condition of their own code. If we cannot speak plainly, it will not work.

What timezone are you in, and how do we talk?

We work from Malaysia, so our afternoons line up with Europe and our mornings with the Americas. Most of the talking happens in writing, and calls get scheduled when a topic outgrows text. Updates are written so you can read them on your own clock.

Why GTTLB

GTTLB is the acronym. Good to the Last Byte is the promise, borrowed from the cereal-box line good to the last bite and pointed at code. It is the audit rule, not just the name: nothing ships until the last byte is tested, documented, and understood by whoever inherits it.

The five letters are the shorthand, the phrase is the standard. GTTLB = Good to the Last Byte

GTTLB is an independent studio, not affiliated with GitLab (NASDAQ: GTLB) in any way.

WHAT WE BUILD

Our own products

We do not only take client work. We design, ship and run our own platforms, and every byte of them is ours to answer for.

PRODUCT / DATING

First Date

The first dating app for actual DATING.

Browser based, no download, verified profiles and location based date ideas so that matching ends in meeting. We built it, we audit it, we run it.

PRODUCT / SPORT
